Dear faraway reader

Dear readers
(c) Henry Thomas

Dear faraway reader,

time and again have I pictured you

scrolling by my woeful words

your graceful fingers pausing for a while

your eyes lingering over the lines

a random smile painting your face.

And I have also pictured you

roughly scrolling by

sighing with disappointment

because it wasn’t my poem you were longing for

even condemning my illegible handwriting

(I have made amends and turned to print)

and perhaps you have scorned at my coarse writings,

my poor attempt at poetry.

But dear reader,

your silent presence much comforts me

and I hope you find yourself mirrored in my verse

for the beauty I talk about is no other than you

for in my verse, you’re immortal, too.
